Title: Payroll & Systems Specialist

Type: Full-Time

Location: Melbourne CBD | Hybrid

👋 Who are we?

We’re partnering with an established Australian organisation with a diverse, operationally complex workforce.

This role sits at the intersection of payroll, systems, compliance and process improvement, making it ideal for someone who loves both the detail of payroll and the technology sitting behind it.

It’s a hands-on role with real ownership, where you’ll be trusted to keep payroll running accurately while also improving the systems, controls and processes that support it.

😊 Who are you?

You’re an experienced payroll professional who enjoys more than just getting the pay run out the door.

You like understanding how systems work, troubleshooting issues, improving processes and making sure payroll is both accurate and scalable.

You’ll be comfortable owning end-to-end payroll while also acting as the go-to person for payroll and Time & Attendance systems.

You’ll likely bring:

  • Strong end-to-end payroll experience
  • Experience with monthly payroll across multiple entities
  • Payroll systems and Time & Attendance experience
  • Strong Award and EBA interpretation skills
  • Solid Australian payroll compliance knowledge
  • Advanced Excel capability
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Confidence working autonomously and partnering with stakeholders

🤸 Day to day

You’ll take ownership across both payroll delivery and payroll systems, including:

  • Managing end-to-end monthly payroll
  • Processing starters, movements, terminations, leave, bonuses, allowances and deductions
  • Completing payroll reconciliations, journals and year-end activities
  • Ensuring compliance with Fair Work, Awards, super, payroll tax, STP and leave legislation
  • Acting as the administration owner of iChris
  • Managing payroll system configuration, upgrades, testing and security
  • Supporting UKG Time & Attendance, including pay codes, work rules and award interpretation rules
  • Troubleshooting system issues and integrations
  • Producing payroll and workforce reporting
  • Analysing payroll trends and labour costs
  • Identifying automation and continuous improvement opportunities
  • Partnering with Finance, People & Culture, Operations and external vendors

🧰 What’s in your toolkit?

You know payroll deeply, but you’re also systems-minded.

You’re comfortable investigating why something has gone wrong, testing a change and making sure the fix works properly before it goes live.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • 7+ years’ payroll experience
  • Previous end-to-end payroll ownership
  • Experience across payroll and T&A systems
  • Strong knowledge of Awards, EBAs, STP, super and payroll tax
  • Experience with systems configuration, testing or implementation
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Excellent stakeholder management capability

Experience with iChris and UKG/Kronos would be highly regarded, but strong transferable payroll systems experience is absolutely welcome.

✨ What’s in it for you?

  • Broad ownership across payroll and systems
  • Strong exposure to iChris and UKG
  • Genuine process improvement and automation opportunities
  • Opportunity to work across payroll, Finance, People & Culture and Operations
  • High level of autonomy
  • Interesting compliance and systems complexity
  • Opportunity to influence how payroll processes are improved over time

🚀 The Bottom Line

If you enjoy end-to-end payroll but also love systems, configuration and improving how things work, this role gives you the best of both.

You’ll own payroll delivery, become the go-to systems person and help shape more accurate, efficient and scalable payroll processes across the business
